The Japanese Ambassador to Lebanon has recently held an event in which solid waste collection vehicles were handed over as part of a project targeting Baalbek-Hermel with a focus on the villages of Nabi Chit and Sareen Tahta. The project was supported through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
This comes as financial challenges in Nabi Chit and Sareen Tahta especially have been curtailing solid waste management efforts and limiting waste collection resulting in increased health and environmental risks for thousands of residents. Through the initiative, Japan will empower, through the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST), the municipal capacity of local authority in waste collection and the crucial role of community involvement.
